Key Stage One Subjects
English

Hands-On Education's cross-curricular topics cover objectives across the national curriculum for England. We cover: Art & Design, Design & Technology (D&T), English, Geography, History, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education (PE) and Science. Our activities are designed to engage children in active learning with meaningful outcomes. Use them throughout your academic year, or just choose one to focus on a particular aspect.

The English topics below cover Year 1 and Year 2. If you want to use any of these topics in a different Year Group or Key Stage, you will need to consider how to adapt the outcomes, content, delivery methods, resources and differentiation, as well as the relevant National Curriculum objectives.

Hands-On Education Activity

All Hands-On Education activities encourage children to develop their spoken language skills through conversations and discussions. As you guide them through the activity, talk about what you are doing. Encourage them to describe, argue, narrate, explain, hypothesize, imagine, question and inspire curiosity.

All the activity sheets provide examples of questions to prompt discussions, however these are only suggestions and should not limit conversions.

Where specific vocabulary is introduced, the activity sheets provide clear definitions.

By creating a safe and positive atmosphere, your child will also develop their confidence and self esteem, knowing that all questions are relevant and their opinions are important.
