The Field Daisy by Ann Taylor is a beautiful poem that describes the daisy in a field. The poet uses vivid imagery to describe the flower, such as "golden eye" and "crimson-tipped". As your child reads and discusses the poem, they will notice patterns in the language, such as the use of alliteration in "golden eye" and repetition in "thou unassuming commonplace".
After discussing the poem, your child can use words that remind them of spring to write their own poem. This activity is a great introduction to classical poetry for Year One learners and meets the English aspect of the National Curriculum of England.
