How do I use these activities?
Christopher Columbus is known for his first voyage across the Atlantic in 1492. On this expedition, he took with him a variety of equipment that was essential for his journey. One of the most important pieces of equipment Columbus took with him was the astrolabe. This instrument allowed him to determine his position at sea by measuring the altitude of the sun or a star. Columbus also took with him a quadrant, which he used to measure the altitude of stars as well. In addition, Columbus brought along compasses and maps. These instruments allowed him to navigate the unknown waters and discover new lands. Without these tools, Columbus's journey would have been much more difficult and dangerous.
