"I have had this white board for a while, wondering where the perfect spot to hang it could be. I needed a location where we would see it throughout the day and could easily access it. Finally, the perfect wall presented itself in the kitchen; next to the cooker, and in view from the table where we eat. Alongside this I have found a set of letter magnets that I finally like and actually have a good combination of letters. The set comes with both capital and small letters so children can spell words correctly. The vowels are red to support children in their spelling, and the set also comes with full stops, exclamation marks and question marks. All of this allows children to build sentences which are grammatically correct.

But finding great educational resources to use with this whiteboard has also been a priority. Luckily, I stumbled upon an incredible website that offers a wide range of educational games and activities suitable for various subjects and age groups. It has been a treasure trove of interactive literacy games, math games, money games, word games, and sequencing games, among others. The best part is that these resources can be accessed by teachers, pupils, and parents alike.

For example, they have a guided reading story with printable worksheets and discussion sheets, perfect for enhancing reading skills. They also have a coins game that introduces children to different currencies and helps them with sorting, ordering, and counting money. Additionally, there are delightful numeracy and literacy games designed specifically for 5 to 8-year-old's, which have been a hit with the kids. The website even offers tablet-friendly money games where children can practice buying items from a toy shop and calculating change.

In terms of language skills, there are engaging games like Noun Explorer, where children can feed worms to fish by clicking on the nouns, and Karate Cats, a fun game that aids in completing sentences, finding correct spellings, and placing full stops. And for those who enjoy word clouds, there's EdWordle, a toy for generating word clouds from provided text, allowing you to print out your creations.

Moreover, they have games like Verbs in Space, where children can practice spotting verbs by whacking robots holding them, and Chinese Dragon Game, an exciting ordering and sequencing numbers game with a Chinese New Year dragon theme. Even phonics is covered with Balloon Phonics, a game focusing on three-letter words with different modes for initial, middle, and end sounds.

With these fantastic educational resources at our fingertips, hanging up the whiteboard has opened the doors to numerous fun literacy games and learning opportunities. In the Initial sounds mode, students focus on identifying and matching the correct beginning sound of a three-letter word. This helps to strengthen their phonemic awareness by honing their ability to recognize and differentiate initial phonetic sounds.

The Middle sounds mode challenges students to identify and match the correct vowel sound in a three-letter word. By focusing on the middle sound, students develop their understanding of how changing the vowel sound can alter the meaning of words. This mode encourages phonics skills and helps students build their vocabulary.

The End sounds mode focuses on recognizing and matching the correct ending sound of a three-letter word. By concentrating on the final phonetic sound, students improve their phonological awareness and learn to identify word endings, which is crucial for reading and spelling proficiency.

Balloon Phonics is particularly suited for those following Phase 2 of the Letters and Sounds phonics program, which introduces basic letter-sound correspondences and CVC words. By engaging in this interactive game, students reinforce their knowledge of three-letter words and develop essential phonetic skills that will assist them in their early reading journey.
