Investigating how Hands-On Education explores the wider world in Primary Education
The National Geography Curriculum objectives within the United Kingdom are a set of standards that define the geographical knowledge, geographical skills and geographical understanding that children should acquire at each stage of their education. These objectives are designed to ensure that all children receive a high-quality education, regardless of their background or location.
For key stages one and two pupils, which includes children aged between five and eleven years old, the focus is on developing national curriculum level literacy and numeracy skills, as well as introducing them to a range of subjects such as science, history, geography and art. For example, Hands-On Educations’ my local area activity uses a pupil’s surrounding environment to gain a deeper understanding of their geographical knowledge. All children progress at different rates and as educators it’s important will develop their knowledge though ideas and topics they are naturally interested in.

Primary school pupils within the United Kingdom will often have a limited world view, especially one outside of Europe. Exposing students to the wider world is part of a child’s progress into adulthood. It’s important not only to develop a deep understanding of the many diverse places in the world through geography lessons but also to explore earths features through maps, activities and even aerial photographs.
By developing a basic understanding of geographical information at the key stage 1 primary school and home education level pupils will gain more enjoyment from geography lessons whither it is focusing on where they live in the United Kingdom or the many amazing countries in places like South America.
In upper key stage 1 pupils will look further into maps and the physical features of that local area. Each key stage will come with its own geography objectives, but as we are looking only at the geography national curriculum in ks1 here we can stay focused on the United Kingdom, Where I Live and the Weather.
