Let's get to know a bit more about Pat Hutchins
Pat Hutchins was a renowned English author and illustrator, best known for her children's books. Born in Catterick Camp, North Yorkshire, she was the sixth of seven children. Her early interest in art was encouraged by her family and friends, leading her to win a scholarship to Darlington School of Art in 1958. She furthered her studies in illustration at Leeds College of Art. Hutchins initially worked as an assistant art director at an advertising agency in London, where she met her husband, Laurence Hutchins.
Her breakthrough came when she moved to New York with her husband, where she met editor Susan Hirschman, who encouraged her to write her own stories to illustrate. This led to her first book, "Rosie's Walk," published in 1968, which remains a classic. Over her career, Hutchins created more than 40 picture books and short novels, known for their humor and engaging storytelling. Her notable works include "Good-Night, Owl!," "Titch," and "The Wind Blew," for which she won the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1975.
